This Friday, April 1st, Monroe High School and Starr Insurance Agency are working on a very important and relevant campaign called “Light It Up Blue”. This campaign is a national effort to increase awareness about April 2nd being Autism Awareness Day. This Friday the students of Monroe High School will wear blue shirts and the school will replace the lights in the school with blue bulbs to show their support. In addition to Monroe High’s efforts, Starr Insurance Agency is taking measures to light their building at 1185 W Front St. in the color blue all night til the actual Autism Awareness Day comes in the morning. ” When MHS Assistant Principal, Montyne Barbee came to us with the idea we felt it was important to go all night with our lights to show the support we have for families facing this terrible disease.” says Benjamin Starr, owner of Starr Insurance Agency. Kelsey Starr, co-owner of Starr Insurance Agency added, “Autism is a challenging disease that is hard to detect early and so extremely difficult to manage for the families of these precious children. We realize on a national level our support of this event is small but we hope it spreads to much larger communities.” Please join these local establishments in supporting Autism Awareness Day this Saturday, April 2nd.
For more information please read the summary from the website lightitupblue.org, the national awareness site dedicated to this day:
On the evenings of April 1 and 2, 2011, prominent buildings across North America and the world — including the Empire State Building in New York City and the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada — will turn their lights blue to raise awareness for autism and to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day on Saturday, April 2.
We’re aiming to light the world blue all throughout April — city by city, town by town — by taking action to raise autism awareness in our communities.
